Nural: fewer adjustments while you move
Dyson documents three useful forms of assistance: reducing heat as the dryer approaches the scalp in Scalp Protect mode, remembering settings for supported attachments, and reducing heat and airflow when you put the dryer down. Nural’s documented functions.
Those features have different jobs. Proximity sensing addresses repeated heat adjustments. Attachment memory addresses switching between steps. Pause detection addresses interruptions while sectioning or picking up a brush. Pick the feature that matches what you actually do; none of them completes the styling technique for you.

Supersonic r: consider the way it sits in your hand
Dyson describes the consumer r as smaller and lighter than the Supersonic, and specifies that its weight comparison concerns the body. It also documents attachment-based settings memory. Consumer Supersonic r specifications and footnotes.
That makes it a candidate when reaching the back of your head or holding a dryer throughout a long session is the annoying part. It does not establish that it will be comfortable for you. If possible, try the handle and controls with the attachment you use; the balance, cable and your usual arm position matter alongside body weight.

What the attachment bundles actually contain
The Nural curl bundle reviewed here lists a concentrator, Wave+Curl diffuser, Gentle Air attachment, wide-tooth comb, finishing attachment and storage case. The diffuser has dome and diffusion configurations for different curl effects.
The r straight/wavy bundle lists a powerful-air attachment, Gentle Air attachment, smoothing nozzle, concentrator, finishing attachment and case. These are different bundles, not a head-to-head test of equivalent accessories. Nural contents · r contents.
For a shared bathroom, attachment memory may remove repeated setting changes. For a gift, find out how the recipient styles their hair before choosing the box: straightening accessories and a curl diffuser solve different jobs. These are our suggested situations, not claims that a particular reviewer used the product that way.
Temperature control does not mean “no heat”
Both are heated-air dryers. Dyson makes heat-control and heat-damage claims, but those should not be rewritten as “the dryer does not get hot” or a guarantee of no damage in any routine. The practical benefit to investigate is whether the tool helps you achieve your finish with appropriate heat and fewer repeated passes.
We have not measured hair damage, drying time or styling durability. We therefore do not promise a particular number of minutes saved, healthier hair, or a finish that lasts longer than with another dryer.
Choose around your hair and your technique
Thick or long hair: compare handling across a complete session and the number of sections you need. A machine that feels fine for a brief demonstration may feel different when used for the whole routine.
Curly or wavy hair: inspect the supplied diffuser and whether it supports your method. Do not choose the straight-hair bundle because the base dryer has the same name.
A smooth finish on straight hair: ask whether the concentrator or finishing attachment can replace a step you currently repeat. An attachment’s existence is not proof that you can retire another tool; that depends on the finish you want.
The small maintenance job that still matters
Nural’s manual calls for checking the filter monthly or when the LEDs indicate a clean is needed, and specifies dry cleaning of the filter mesh. It is not maintenance-free. The consumer r’s product guidance uses a flashing yellow LED to signal filter cleaning.

Before buying, check the regional voltage, plug, included attachments and availability of replacement accessories. Keep the filter reachable in storage so that a small maintenance task does not become a neglected one.

We read eight visible Amazon Italy Nural reviews on 17 September 2026. They cover several colour bundles in the straight/wavy range; they do not establish performance of the curl bundle used for the specifications above. The visible sample was positive overall and cannot establish reliability or absence of drawbacks.
For long, thick hair: lighter does not automatically mean quicker
A Supersonic r owner with long, thick hair liked its lightness but returned it because their drying time was similar to their previous dryer and they still wanted a straightener for the finish.

We also read eight visible r reviews, including critical accounts, on 17 September 2026. The two cited experiences concern the Powder/Rose Gold straight/wavy bundle. They are individual reports, not timed tests or a claim about every hair type.
Our recommendation
Nural is the more relevant shortlist for a reader who wants the dryer to manage some of the adjustments around the scalp and between styling steps. Supersonic r is the more relevant shortlist for a reader prioritising handling. If the problem is a difficult finish rather than the drying process, compare the attachment and technique first.
